A Day in the Life at SkiBig3 - Banff Sunshine

Banff Sunshine is an incredible mountain resort that spans over 3,300 acres of skiable terrain and is renowned for being one of the only ski hills that crosses over 2 borders – in this case British Columbia and Alberta.

A day at Banff Sunshine will never look the same, but here is the ultimate way to get the most out of your day and truly see it all.

Coffee and the Gondola

Before heading up the Gondola, grab a hot drink and a baked good from the base cafe – First Tracks Cafe. This way you can warm up and fuel yourself on the 20-minute gondola ride to the upper Sunshine village area. Insider tip, to start your day, stay on the gondola through the Goat’s Eye mid-station and ride all the way to the main Upper Village area.

Head up to the top of the world

On a clear day at Banff Sunshine there is nothing better than heading up to the top of the mountain. Start by heading up Strawberry Express and scoot straight left down to the base of Great Divide Express. Heading to the summit of the resort, this lift transports you across the Continental Divide, from Alberta, into British Columbia and back again.

From the top, cruise down long rolling groomers including South Divide and World Cup, or challenge yourself with some powder turns in Bye Bye Bowl. Looking to advance your terrain park skills? Hit up 3 different terrain parks on your way back down to the Upper Village base area: Divide, Grizzly XL and Springhill Terrain Park.

New this season, don’t miss out on a cozy ride up Super Angel LX, Banff Sunshine’s first 6-seater heated bubble chair. The Super Angel LX provides rapid (and warm) access to the Great Divide Express Chair, extensive tree runs and rolling groomers for those looking to cruise.

Pints and Poutine at Mad Trappers

After shredding out on the mountain and hitting the odd box and rail, head to Mad Trappers in the center of the Upper Village for some much-needed sustenance. ‘Trappers’ is the local spot for great food, drinks and overall après vibes. If you have never tried a plate of Canadian Poutine (fries, gravy and cheese curds – don't knock it until you try it!), now is the time to do so. Trappers is home to the best poutine on the mountain. Depending on the weather, relax outside in the après zone and watch the surrounding ski action.

Spend the afternoon lapping Goat’s Eye Mountain

Having fully explored the upper Village area, it's time to make your way to Goat’s Eye. Keep in mind, Goat’s Eye has terrain suitable for advanced beginners and above. Learners should stick to ski zones in the Upper Village.

For advanced beginner and intermediate riders, Sunshine Coast is the perfect rolling groomer to safely work on your turns.

If you’re inclined to hit more challenging terrain, there is a wide range of great options to choose from including Hell’s Kitchen and Rolling Thunder. South Side Chutes offers steep terrain and is the perfect testing ground for those aspiring to hit the freeride zone of Delirium Dive (beacon, shovel and probe required).

If you need a pick-me-up at any time throughout the afternoon, head to Goat’s Eye Lodge for a quick snack break. If you are visiting in the spring, the patio zone is a prime spot to kick back and enjoy some outdoor après vibes.

How to get to Goat’s Eye: From the Upper Village area, head towards Jack Rabbit for a short hop up. From there head left towards Wolverine Chair and the bottom of Goat’s Eye Chair.

Ski Out to Get Out

The best way to wrap your day at Banff Sunshine take the “Ski Out”. This 5 km run is not only the quickest way down, but it is the most fun. The Ski Out winds down the mountain under the gondola all the way back to the Creekside Lodge, bus transportation and car park.
